This is a classic 55K point to point trail race in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. This is the first trail race in this remote section of the Oregon outback.
The first 6 miles will mostly be running among Ponderosa Pines and through small alpine meadows. As the miles start to add up, the views just get better. Views of Abert Rim off to the east as well as panoramic views along the ridge at many locations. Just before aid station 3, you will gain Morgan Butte - the site of an old fire lookout. After hitting aid station 3, you will gradually descend over the next 6 miles to Chewaucan Crossing (the finish) among wildflowers, alpine meadows, and vast expanses leaving you wanting more miles to run.
There are 3 fully stocked aid stations with typical aid station fare - chips, PB & Js, Skoutbackcountry bars, Muir Energy, water, Tailwind electrolyte drink, Cookies, Candy, etc.
There is one cut-off time at AS 3 (mile 26.5) at 3pm.
There are no bags.
Due to permit conditions, no pacers are allowed.
Crews are allowed at Moss Pass Aid Station only. Do NOT attempt to drive to the other aid stations or your runner will be disqualified.
We love our four legged family members, but they are only allowed at the start/finish and Moss Pass areas. They can not participate in the race. Please leash your pup.
